The United States Basketball Writers Association has named Kentucky Wildcat center Nerlens Noel to the 2013 Integris Wayman Tisdale Award Midseason Watch List.
The freshman from Everett, Massachusetts is averaging 10.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
Noel currently leads the nation in blocks with an average of 4.8 blocks per game. He also finds himself ranked 14th in the nation in steals (2.4 spg) and 33rd in rebounding (9.3 rpg). It goes without saying that he is currently leading this season’s team in all three statistical categories. The 6-10 freshman is also averaging 10.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
Through 20 games this season, the freshman has blocked 95 shots and stolen the ball from opponents 47 times. Noel ranks 6th in field goal attempts so that really says what kind of team player he is. It’s the same as Anthony Davis last season.
Noel has drawn comparisons to Bill Russell. Russell won 12 NBA championships while playing for the Boston Celtics–most of those came under the legendary coach Red Auerbach.
The recipient of the Tisdale Award will be honored at an April 15th banquet.
FlaVarsity.com is expected to have streaming coverage tomorrow when JoJo Kemp makes his decision. Kemp is a 3-star all-purpose back from Deland, Florida. Kemp is choosing between Kentucky, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and South Florida.
Nick Haynes, a 3-star offensive guard from Niceville, Florida, is visiting Kentucky this weekend and is expected to make a decision on Sunday. Haynes has interest in Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, and Central Florida.
The National Signing Day is only 6 days away. A lot can happen between now and then. Two of the big players that Kentucky fans are going to keep an eye on are Ryan Timmons and Ra’Shaad Samples. While Samples is currently committed to play for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, he has shown interest over twitter in getting followers from the Big Blue Nation.
