With National Signing Day fast approaching, Mark Stoops is frantically trying to finish off what could wind-up being the best recruiting class UK has ever seen in the era of major online recruiting services.

Unfortunately, this has led to the mutual parting with several former recruits who committed under the Joker Phillips regime. The latest prospects to decommit are tight end Darren Dowdell, wide receiver DeAngelo Yancey, and offensive tackle Ander Bodkin.

Bodkin was a 3-star and the 93rd-best OT. Yancey was a 3-star and the 143rd-best WR. Dowdell was an unranked 2-star.

That leaves the Cats with 17 committed prospects, and likely eight rides left to offer. Offensive tackle Jake Boynton is also believed to be wavering on his commitment.

One of those free scholarships is being held for Louisville Trinity defensive end Jason Hatcher, who de-committed from Southern Cal last night. John Clay of the LHL pointed out that UK has a very good sell to Hatcher in the form of Mark Stoops former All-American DE at Florida State in Bjoern Werner, who is expected to be a top five pick in the upcoming NFL draft, with some scouts tabbing Werner as the #1 overall prospect.

For all of Charlie Strong’s success at Louisville, he’s yet have a player drafted before the 4th-round of the NFL Draft. And Stoops could have three in the 1st-round alone this year.
