Kentucky Wildcat Basketball: 7 Degrees of Auburn Tigers

Kentucky faces up with the Auburn Tigers this Saturday. With it, we’re going to visit the ties of Auburn to Kentucky. On this journey, we’ll see things from the Bible Belt to the Waist Line, we’ll venture to guess the preferences of breakfast foods and see which one actually paid off.

Here’s 7 degrees of the Auburn Tigers.

  • In 1856, the state legislature chartered a Methodist college, the East Alabama Male College in Auburn. The school didn’t allow women until 1892.
  • One of those women admitted was Kathryn Thornton. Kathryn was the second female American to ever walk in space.
  • Katherine Webb, Miss Alabama USA was an Auburn graduate and received rave reviews during the 2013 BCS National Championship Game that featured her boyfriend, Alabama QB AJ McCarron.
  • Mallory Hagan, was Miss Alabama in the Miss USA competition. Despite not having a boyfriend that won a BCS game, Hagan did win the title of Miss America 2013.
  • Hagan will serve as IHOP’s  spokeswoman for their 8th annual National Pancake Day. Note, that day is currently scheduled for Tuesday, February 5th.
  • Despite being known as an International House of Pancakes, there were no IHOPS in any other country other than the United States, despite having over 1500 IHOPS in the US.
  • There is no scientific data to suggest Americans prefer Pancake’s over Waffles, but it has been stated that the Kentucky basketball team does perform better on Waffles, as according to CoachCal.com in January 2011, Coach John Calipari and David Scott, the editor of CoachCal.com, “tried to go to Maurice’s BBQ for a lunch buffet before the game in Columbia, South Carolina. They had some difficulty finding one big enough to accommodate a lunch buffet and after their third non-buffet Maurice’s, <Calipari and Scott> settled on the gourmet stylings of The Waffle House. Coach had Waffle House the morning of the Louisville game as well. That’s two big wins on the road attributed to stops at Waffle House.”

I’m suggesting Waffle’s for the entire Kentucky team. Ever. Single. Game. Leave the pancake’s to Auburn.
