Their departures free up scholarships for talented players like Jaleel Hytchye, a 4-star cornerback who committed to UK last week largely due to the fact he was told he could play significant snaps in 2013. Nate Willis, a 3-star JUCO CB is scheduled to visit UK on January 18th, and most believe he is UK’s to lose. These are two players that Mark Stoops was able to recruit because he felt like they were good fits for his system. Perhaps Caffey and Reed would not have been good fits.
Expect to hear a number of other departures in the coming weeks, which only free up scholarships that Stoops can use to recruit his own players with.
It’s also worth noting that JUCO TE Steven Borden and DE Za’Darius Smith who signed in December, as well as QB Reese Phillips, are all enrolled at UK, and all three will participate in spring practice.
