In an unfortunate bit of news, UK football spokesperson Tony Neely confirmed today that cornerbacks Marcus Caffey and Jonathan Reed have been dismissed from the team by new head coach Mark Stoops and will not return. These losses hurt UK’s  depth at cornerback but neither player saw the field in 2012. Caffey was projected to be the Cats’ best CB but was declared academically ineligible. Reed redshirted during the 2012 season, so there’s no guarantee that either of these players would have seen the field.

Through their departures, UK is now able to recruit a full 25-man class after it originally looked as though with a small senior class that UK wouldn’t be able to add a full 25-man class. This is key, as this will be the first recruiting class under Mark Stoops, and his success or failure at UK hinges on how well this first class works out.
