Kentucky Wildcats Student Life: Let's get behind UK Hoops too

With the excitement and hype that surrounds John Calipari’s men’s basketball program at UK, oftentimes many other teams are overlooked- especially by students. Matthew Mitchell’s women’s hoops are an exception to that.

His team is 14-1 with their only loss to Brittney Griner and the Baylor Bears. Kicking off conference play with a win over Florida, women’s hoops have the momentum to go all the way. Coach Mitchell said in a press conference that he believed this team was a final four contender before the season even began.

Although not quite the fan base of the men’s program, the women do have a steady following. They have a fairly large and faithful fan base outside the student body, and the students are becoming more and more engaged. I couldn’t tell you how many tweets or Facebook posts from my fellow students I’ve seen that say “You HAVE to go check out women’s basketball” or “they’re incredible” or comments about the energy they bring to the court.

Coach Mitchell’s goal is to back Memorial Coleisum for every game, so lets help him out a and root on our Cats, BBN! The games are free for students with a student ID and for non-student ticket information visit here or call the Joe Craft ticket office.
