Dakari Johnson of Monteverde Academy is set to make his college decision on ESPNU during halftime of the 8 PM broadcasted game tonight. However, he plays at 6 PM on ESPN2 so certainly tune in to see what all the fuss is about. He has narrowed his list to Kentucky, Georgetown, and Syracuse. The overwhelming majority of scouts and analysts have pegged Kentucky as the favorite for Johnson, who reclassified from 2014 to 2013 a few months ago. Johnson is the number 1 ranked center in the class and number 12 player overall in the class of 2013. He has made it clear that he would have no problem coming to Kentucky if Noel or Cauley-Stein stayed an extra year. World Wide Wes was also at his game the other night, so there’s that.
Johnson is not the type of center Kentucky Wildcat fans are used to since he is more of a prototypical post-up center over the lanky, athletic shot blocking type that Davis and Noel are. Many scouts have compared Johnson to Jared Sullinger since they both are very strong with good post up skills. He will certainly need some Camp Cal to boost his conditioning and needs to develop a mid-range game so defenses cannot back off of him. He currently plays at the number 1 high school team in the country Monteverde Academy alongside Florida signee Kasey Hill and 2014 UK target D’Angelo Russel.
Tune into ESPN2 at 6 eastern to see Johnson play and at 8 on ESPNU to see ifCal adds another blue chip recruit to this unbelievable class. He will more than likely make his announcement at halftime of the game being broadcasted.
