Jaleel Hytchye has given a verbal commitment to Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats. Hytchye is a 4 star defensive back from Cincinnati, Ohio who was also considering Pittsburgh and Tennessee. Jaleel is listed at 5’11” and 170 lbs from La Salle High School. He is ranked by ESPN as the 24th best cornerback in the nation and is listed as having strengths in both man coverage and zone coverage.
According to ESPN, Hytchye has great quickness and the playing speed needed to shut down receivers when playing man coverage. He possesses the size and athleticism for the cornerback position at the major level of competition and his long but slender frame appears capable of supporting additional bulk over time. His athleticism and open-field tackling skills should allow him to successfully do a variety of jobs as a special teams player. We see a defensive back capable of lining up in man coverage and running with speed on the outside. He demonstrates the ability to press receivers up tight and disrupt their release. He does an excellent job of turning and running step for step up the sideline and leveraging receivers into the boundary. He displays very good ball skills, showing the ability to get his head around to locate and play the ball at the high point. He displays outstanding ball skills. He demonstrates the ability to play soft man coverage and has a balanced, quick backpedal which allows him to turn and run or plant and break up on underneath throws with very little wasted movement. He demonstrates the ability to flip his hips and make tight turns. However, his transitional footwork could be cleaner at times. He is disciplined when squatting in zone coverage, showing good route awareness with eyes on the quarterback, and is patient maintaining good distribution and not overplaying when there are two receivers in his area. He demonstrates the key and diagnosis reaction skills necessary to come up and force the perimeter run. He uses his hands effectively to ward off blockers and his open-field tackling ability limits excessive yardage when the ball crosses the line of scrimmage. He displays very good pursuit habits and excellent chase down speed. Hytchye has the coverage skills to see early playing time at the BCS level of competition.
