The above picture is of Melvin Turpin against the Louisville Cardinals on March 26th, 1983 in the NCAA Tournament Mideast Regional Finals. That was the first game between the two hated foes since March 13th, 1959. Ever since that night in Knoxville in 1983, the rivalry has grown in both popularity, notoriety, and hatred amongst the respective fan bases. But, today at 4 p.m. ET on CBS, the heated rivalry will be renewed once again, the 45th time overall, at the KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville. The Louisville Cardinals, ranked #4 in the latest AP Poll, are 11-1 and have a 6 game winning streak since losing to Duke on November 24th. The Kentucky Wildcats, unranked in the latest AP Poll, are 8-3 and have a 4 game winning streak since losing to Baylor on December 1st. I decided to dive into the history of the rivalry, since it was renewed 1983, statistically speaking of course. Here are all the numbers, facts, records, etc. that you would ever want to know concerning the Kentucky/Louisville men’s basketball game since 1983. Enjoy:
