This time of the year is always a very dangerous time for highly ranked teams, and it showed on Saturday. The reason why it’s a tricky time is because the players are ready to go home and see thier loved ones. Maybe the biggest upset of the year happened Saturday at Madison Square Garden. Temple who just lost to Canisius by 10 went into the garden and beat #3 ranked and undefeated Syracuse. Khalif Wyatt was the hero for the owls as he had 33 points and dominated the whole game while fighting foul trouble all game.
Another top 5 team went down later on that night as Kansas State beat Florida. Florida just coming off a lose to Arizona is struggling right now on the defensive end to get stops when really needed. Kenny Boynton and Mike Rasario are a great backcourt, but are very sketchy late in the game in clutch situations. Kansas State was led in scoring by Will Spradling with 17 points. Kansas State defeated Florida 67-61.
A team that nobody is talking about, but is a really good team is Kansas. Ben Mclemore is one of the top guards in the country, and Jeff Withey is a defensive presence in the paint. Kansas went to Ohio State and beat them on their home floor which is a very tough task. Ben Mclemore had 22 points to lead the Jayhawks to a very important win, and resume builder win for march. Kansas is now 10-1 on the season with there only lose coming at the hands of Tom Izzo and Michigan State.
Here is this weeks top 25…………
- Ohio State
- SD State
- Michigan State
- Notre Dame
- Oklahoma State
- NC State
Arizona takes on SDSU in the championship of the Diamond head classic tonight. Should be a very good game and everybody’s first chance to actually see how good SDSU really is.
