The final game of the night featured an outstanding battle between two UK targets to play center for 2013 and 2014. 2013 recruit Dakari Johnson took on 2014 center Jahlil Okafor as Monteverde Academy (FL) took on Whitney Young (IL) in an overtime thriller. Dakari Johnson, who recently trimmed his list to Georgetown, Syracuse, and Kentucky, had a big game with 9 points 17 rebounds and 4 blocks to help keep the number 1 high school team in the country undefeated. Not to be outdone, 6 ft 10 Okafor had 16 points and 13 rebounds to nearly lead the upset of powerhouse Monteverde. Johnson may be the next addition to Kentucky’s recruiting class considering his other two listed options are maxed out on their scholarships. He is a much more prototypical center (in other words not Noel and Davis) with a wide body and solid post skills. Okafor is the top center in the 2014 class and has said before that he may be a package deal with the top point guard, Tyus Jones.

Here are the highlights of this outstanding high school game. Dakari Johnson is #1 in gray. Jahlil Okafor is #22 in orange.

The City of Palms Classic will continue on Friday as Dakari Johnson’s Monteverde Academy will take on Long Beach Poly (CA) at 6:30 PM today for a spot in the City of Palms Championship. Huntington Prep and Andrew Wiggins play in the championship of the Signature Series portion of the tournament which means they will play against Arlington Country Day (FL) on Saturday at 7:15 PM.
