Kentucky Wildcats Roll Past Lipscomb: Kyle Wiltjer Explodes For 23

Coming off another week of “Camp Cal” Kentucky looked very focused coming into today’s game. I was very impressed with the effort that most everybody gave. Ryan harrow dived on the floor 3 or 4 times during the course of the game. Kyle Wiltjer didn’t start for the 1st time all season, but had a double-double coming off the bench. If you would’ve told me coming into this game that Wiltjer would end up with 12 rebounds I probably wouldn’t believe it for one minute. Something about the bench fired him up and he played maybe his best game all year.

Nerlens Noel is a stat sheet stuffer that’s all there is to it. He does a little bit of everything, but does it quitely. I have never saw a big guy steal the ball as much as he does, wether it be a backtip or from the post he has his hands everywhere. Anthony Davis was polished on the offensive end, and Nerlens is still learning to be an offensive force. However; I don’t think the experts were off when saying Noel may be a better shot blocker than Davis. He brings it every game, and I just love his overall game.

Archie Goodwin struggled this game, but I am not worried at all about him. John Calipari actually benched him for most of the first half one because of foul trouble, but part of it was his play. What I liked about Archie in the 2nd half was he bounced back and had 10 points. He was attacking the basket with force like we are used to, and seemed to gain that confidence back in his scoring ability.

Overall I was very happy with the outcome of the game not just because of the score, but the effort was there, we could hear them talking on defense a little, and Ryan Harrow took charge as point guard. With Harrow at point the team looks 100% different, an interesting stat about Harrow, he has 16 assists and only 3 TO’s this year. That’s a 5-1 assist to turnover ratio on the season which is better than any other point guard Calipari has coach(Memphis and Kentucky).

Kentucky’s defense was a lot better as they forced 24 turnovers; although they still had lapses on defense overall it was a lot better. This team is only 10 games into their season, and have a lot to work on but I can see improvement every game. Today it was the effort that they played with, and I say they did it for about 32 out of the 40 minutes in the game.

Camp Cal continues this week as finals are over, and I am very excited to see the leaps they take over the week of practice. Kentucky will take on the Marshall Thundering Herd Saturday in Rupp Arena at 4. GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
