Inside The Numbers: Mark Stoops

Christmas is four weeks away, but the holiday arrived a little earlier than usual for the Big Blue Nation today. Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart has announced that current defensive coordinator at Florida State University, Mark Stoops, will become the new head coach for the University of Kentucky football program. There are many advantages to this hire: 1. the name alone (Bob and Mike Stoops), 2. a defensive genius in a conference where it truly takes defense to win championships, and 3. recruiting ties in talent-heavy states of Florida and Ohio. But, with no experience as a head coach at the collegiate level, I decided to look into the past schools that Mark Stoops has been a part of and how he stacked up statistically. More importantly, I compared his numbers to the numbers either immediately prior to or after Mark left, to see how the school compared without Stoops at the helm. Here is what I found:
