It was another solid week of college basketball, but one thing is for certain, as of now there are no ELITE teams. Yes, I know Indiana has held onto the number 1 spot for 3 weeks now, but they had to go down to the wire to beat an unranked Georgetown team. I am not taking anything away from Gtown they look to be a solid team and could cause some teams problems in the Big East and coming into the tournament. Louisiville their toughest test of the year, when they took on Missouri in the battle for atlantis. Missouri had two key players out, and Louisville took care of them winning 84-61.
That set up a top 5 matchup between Duke and Louisville on saturday night for the Battle of Atlantis championship. This time Louisville was on the wrong side of the injury bug. Gorgui Dieng, Louisville’s starting center was out with a wrist injury and was not able to play. Quinn Cook led Duke with 15 points, and hit 4 major free throws to guarntee a 76-71 win for the Blue Devils. Duke has now beat Kentucky and Louisville, both were top 5 at the time of defeat.
A team nobody is talking about is Ohio State, they are 5-0 and have a huge matchup with Duke this week in the Big Ten/ACC challenge. This will give the nation a chance to see just how good they are.
Maybe the biggest suprise of the week came last night when Cal-Poly beat then (11) ranked UCLA 70-68. Shabazz Muhammad led UCLA with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the bruins as they were upset. More bad news for UCLA came out earlier yesterday that Tyler Lamb may be transferring. Ben Howland could be on the hot seat if things don’t change quickly.
Indiana stays atop Wildcat Blue Nation’s Top 25 for the 4th week in a row, but Duke is knocking on the door.
