The Kentucky Wildcats were given a stiff test by the Morehead State Eagles tonight. Tough defense from the Eagles kept the Wildcats off kilter most of the first half and into the second half as well.
The Wildcats clearly were not prepared for the type of physicality that Sean Woods’ team employed on every possession. Fouling out wasn’t a worry for Morehead State as they hacked at Kentucky on both ends of the floor. It did keep the Wildcats from running any type of offense and slowed the game down to a snails pace. The 32-31 Kentucky halftime lead may have been disappointing for fans, but UK was lucky to have it.
Kentucky came out in the second half with two straight turnovers by Archie Goodwin. But they didn’t stop battling and eventually pulled away. The Eagles’ 32 personal fouls helped the Wildcats extend the lead.
UK went 31-41 from the free throw line.
The Kentucky 831 game streak of making three pointers was threatened until Julius Mays hit one late in the second half. It’s the third longest streak in the country.
