KENTUCKY LEADS SERIES 11-8

LAST MEETING
12/18/2001: Duke 95 KENTUCKY 92 OT*
*Jimmy V Classic @ East Rutherford, NJ

Kentucky and Duke may have one of the most storied history even though they have only met 19 times on the basketball court. The two teams have played 12 times since 1963 and of those games there has been:

1 NCAA CHampionship (1978)
1 NCAA Final Four (1966)
2 NCAA Regional Finals (1992,1998)
1 NCAA Regional Semifinal (1980)
5 games with “Classic” in the title (1979, 1988, 1998, 2001, 2012)
2 other Tourney Championships (1963, 1969)

Last season could not have ended differently for the two teams. It seems like the NCAA went out of their way to set up a Regional Final “20 year anniversary” between UK and Duke, but the showdown never occurred. Duke was upset in the first round by Lehigh 75-70, while Kentucky stormed through the NCAA Tournament field to win their eight national title. This year, both teams are ranked in the top 10 and in another “Classic” game. Let’s see if the game lives up to the title. Let’s meet the Blue Devils.
