Two bitter rivals, two opposite directions in football. It wasn’t too long ago when Kentucky could boast the positive direction in this example. But not any longer. Louisville is sitting pretty with an 8-0 (3-0 in the Big East) record and a #10 ranking in the BCS polls. Kentucky is 1-8 (0-6 in the SEC) and the BCS doesn’t even know that Kentucky football exists.

I’m not suggesting that Louisville athletics should be the measuring stick for the University of Kentucky. As a whole, I think the Wildcats are doing quite well. With a national championship in men’s basketball, along with extremely successful women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, baseball, the rifle team, etc…,;UK should be proud of their sports programs. The football team is just not one of them.

But let’s face the truth here; it hurts like hell to see Louisville having so much success in football while we struggle just to stay competitive in games. Our goal should not be “let’s be competitive with Louisville”, it should be “let’s be competitive in the SEC”, but we are so far from being competitive in the SEC that rivaling Louisville is the closest thing we have to an attainable goal for our program.
