The Kentucky Wildcats are ranked #3 in the preaseason AP poll, behind #1 Indiana and #2 Louisville. He is how the rankings stacked up:

1. Indiana

2. Louisville

3. Kentucky

4. Ohio State

5. Michigan

6. North Carolina State

7. Kansas

8. Duke

9. Syracuse

10. Florida

Apparently the voters are banking on the Big 10 to be good this year as they have three teams in the top ten, which is the most. The Bi East has two, the Big 12 comes in with one, the ACC has two and the SEC has two as well.

Kentucky has been ranked in the top five in three out of the last four seasons. Last year the Wildcats were ranked #2 heading into the 2011/2012 season.

But the Wildcats shouldn’t let this get to their heads. John Calipari stressed yesterday at the SEC media day that his young team isn’t very good and that they are way behind on defense. That being said, I have complete confidence that Cal will have these young guys read to compete for an SEC title and a national title when the time comes. There is too much talent and the instruction is too good.

As always, Go Cats.
