This is usually the spot in the post where I start off by making observations and maybe a few jokes or sarcastic remarks. After last week’s debacle at Arkansas, I’m not feeling very funny nor do I have many observations. My one observation is that I hope these rumors of Mitch Barnhart wanting to keep Joker Phillips aren’t true. Like, I really, really, really hope they aren’t true.
#11 Georgia Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1) at Kentucky Wildcats (1-6, 0-4): Saturday October 20th, 7:00 PM
What’s there to say about Kentucky at this point? Everybody is hurt on defense, we are down two quarterbacks, and the team is coming off an embarrassing performance that was mercifully called in the second half. I always try to find a silver lining with this team but that’s extremely difficult to do right now. Kentucky ranks 95th or worse in the major statistical categories (rushing yards, passing yards, points scored, points allowed) and the fact that Joker Phillips trotted out Morgan newton against Arkansas pretty much sums it all up. I would say let’s keep it respectable, but is that even a realistic expectation anymore?
Last time we saw Georgia, they were getting their butts handed to them in Columbia, South Carolina. The Bulldogs were throttled 35-7, and a defense that had been suspect in previous games finally got exposed by the Gamecocks. The offense still has Aaron Murray and Todd Gurley, two guys that are up there with the best at their positions. Georgia has a point to prove and will look to do so against Kentucky. Their hopes for an SEC Championship game appearance aren’t dead yet as South Carolina lost to LSU and the Gamecocks are headed to Florida this Saturday.
It’s not going to be pretty.
