Big Blue Nation was primed for an upset but it just wasn’t meant to be today. The Wildcats came out wearing their black uniforms in order to drum up some excitement, but the Mississippi State offense looked like the excited unit on the field in the early going.

After going down two scores early, Kentucky decided to go with former red shirt freshman Patrick Towles. He went 5-5 and a touchdown on his first ever drive as a Wildcat. But that was short lived as Towles went down with an ankle injury and did not play in the second half.

Fellow freshman Jalen Whitlow took over in the second half and ran the ball in for a Kentucky touchdown to pull the Cats within two touchdowns.

But every time the Wildcats got some momentum going, a penalty, a dropped pass or a poor play call would stall their progress.

The defense had issues of their own as Ashley Lowery and Martaveus Neloms both went down with injuries. Three freshmen played in the defensive secondary for most of the game.

Next week the Wildcats will travel to Arkansas. The Hogs just picked up only their second victory of the season over Auburn.

Patrick Towles was on crutches and in a walking boot for the entire second half. His status will be closely monitored.
