UK Head Coach Joker Phillips announced today that starting QB Max Smith is out indefinitely, and will have surgery to repair torn ligament in ankle. If he can’t return, UK plans to apply for a medical hardship waiver, meaning he could still have three years left of college eligibility.
Phillips says both Jalen Whitlow and Patrick Towles will now play this season making Kentucky’s top 2 quarterbacks are true freshmen. An interesting situation is now devloping at the QB position, not for just the rest of this year, but in the coming seasons as well. If Towles does in fact play this year and Smith receives a medical redshirt, UK’s top 3 QBs could be in the same class. Expect to hear plenty of transfer rumore in the coming months, though until the words come out of the players’ mouth, take it with a grain of salt.
The team also announced that safety Dakotah Tyler out with a torn ACL. After leaving the team last season for personal reasons, Tyler rejoined the team this offseason and was a serviceable backup at safety. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him that he can recover and continue to play the sport he loves.
Also announced was the October 13th Kentucky/Arkansas game will kick off at 7 pm EST on FSN.
