With a hot South Carolina team coming into Lexington and Kentucky coming off two straight losses, Max Smith will be back on the field as the Cats look to upset the Gamecocks tonight at Commonwealth Stadium. Sports Illustrated has an in-depth preview of the game.

Even though South Carolina obliterated Kentucky last year 54-3 in Columbia, it doesn’t mean anything to RB Marcus Lattimore. He and his Gamecock teammates are out to redeem themselves for a 31-28 loss to Kentucky in 2010. “They are the only Eastern Division team in the past three seasons that has beaten us,” Lattimore said. “It has stayed in our minds for the past two years that we could have done more and won that game. They embarrassed us that game. The past two years, I haven’t forgotten.” Could that leave the Cats as a favorite to upset the Gamecocks at home?

Joker Phillips has his back against the wall, but he’s still the head coach for now, despite the past few losses. But that doesn’t give fans the right to go ahead and name his successor. Especially those that are calling for Bobby Petrino to take the reigns at UK. The Courier-Journal explains why UK should hire someone with “integrity and character” to lead the football program.

In case you were wondering, John Calipari wasn’t recruiting players last night. In fact, he was recruiting rap stars, most notably Brooklyn native Jay-Z. Calipari attended his concert at the Barclays Center opening, as just another example of Calipari’s relationship with another big time artist–another artist who supports UK. “I told Jay-Z that I might get fined $50k for being in HIS locker room tonight,” Calipari said. “He said “I got you”. #LaFamilia” The Cats play their regular season opener against Maryland at the Barclays Center in November.

And on a final note, Big Blue Madness begins in two weeks. You may not be ready for it, but Nerlens Noel is.
