Kentucky Wildcats Football: Sunday Afternoon Quarterback

Kentucky lost to Western Kentucky last night in overtime. There will be a lot of things said about the game, but I’m going to keep this post short and simple so you can get on with your Sunday. Here are my quick hitter thoughts:

Kentucky has no business losing to WKU, ever. Throw in that the loss was at home and that Kentucky trailed throughout the game and it’s just embarrassing.

This is, without a doubt, the worst defense I’ve ever seen at Kentucky. The funny thing is, that the talent level on the defensive side of the ball is as high as I can ever remember it being. That’s coaching. How an SEC team can be humiliated by a big east, a MAC, and a Sunbelt team is beyond me. They have had the ball run straight down their throats for three straight games.

Western was not as talented as Kentucky, but played better and deserved to win that game.

Willie Taggert’s job is not on the line, but he still coaches with more passion than Joker did.

The trick play in overtime was a gutsy call, but we all knew that if they just ran an off-tackle or an Iso, they would have gotten it anyway. The defense couldn’t stop the run all night.

The best players on our team are all sophomores and freshmen. That’s a harsh reality, but it’s one I came to on Saturday.

It is probably over for Joker ad the staff. They could probably cancel out the losses by beating Florida and South Carolina in the next two weeks, but that’s not likely to happen. I personally hate that things don’t look like they’re going to work out for Joker (as I’ve always been a supporter of him), but UK can’t be the third best football team in Kentucky.

I think that Barnhart and the administration need to move quickly and terminate Joker this  Monday or next. Delaying things doesn’t help anyone. Let’s give him a chance to move on and get a search committee on the job right away.
