The Harrison Twins announced their final three last night. It includes Kentucky, Maryland and SMU. Villanova and Baylor were officially cut.

John Calipari just paid an at home visit to the two recruits and told them that Kentucky isn’t for everybody, but it’s for them. He really, really wants these guys. Six months ago I would have told you that the twins were a Wildcat lock but that’s not so certain anymore as Maryland has made up major ground.

The addition of Dez Wells to the team tells us that Maryland is again a force to be reckoned with on the recruiting battle field. It also gives the Harrisons another very talented player to work with. Also, the Under Armour tie-in cannot be ignored. The Harrison Twins’ AAU team is sponsored by Under Armour and Maryland is sponsored by Under Armour. In fact, one of the founders of Under Armour is a Maryland grad.

I feel that it’s a two horse race between UK and Maryland. If SMU ends up being their destination then I think everyone will be completely shocked. The twins were set to announce October 29th, their birthday, but their dad stated that 10-29-12 isn’t the day they will announce. Maybe. They could announce earlier than that, they could announce later.

It should be an interesting couple of weeks.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is in town and he is making bold predictions. The former Wildcat is in town for the UK alumni game on Saturday and has picked his beloved Wildcats to repeat as national champions. While Cal did not exactly share his former players’ sentiments, he did have this to say about the 2012/2013 version of the Wildcats:

I’d take my team over any other next season. I don’t see anyone out there who scares me.

This looks to be a down year for college basketball and Cal smells blood in the water. No team has asserted itself as a team to beat. There are no North Carolina’s or Kentucky’s from last season. Cal’s team is young, very talented and very big.

Hell, when UofL and IU are #1 and #2 in most of your polls, you know it’s a down year.
