GAME 2
KENT STATE GOLDEN FLASHES (1-0)
SEPTEMBER 8, 2012 – 7:30PM EST
COMMONWEALTH STADIUM, LEXINGTON KY
KENTUCKY LEADS SERIES 6-0
LAST MEETING
9/8/2007: KENTUCKY 56 Kent State 20
The last thing that Kentucky needed was a performance like the one they got versus Louisville. With the Cardinal romp and the fact that Vegas initially installed Kentucky as just a seven point favorite this week, teams like Kent State are going to come into Commonwealth Stadium thinking they can come in and march out with an upset. The MAC got a lot of good press in week one with Ohio knocking off Penn State and Bowling Green giving Florida all they wanted. Kent State will be looking to pull off the crown gem task for a MCA school: beating a SEC team.
Granted, I think it is ridiculous that Kentucky is a 7 point favorite over Kent State, but I thought the UL 14 point spread was ridiculous as well. It is no ones fault but UK that Kent State and the rest of the country seem to think this can be an upset. Kentucky needs to take control of this game early and get a convincing win to restore some of the faith of the fanbase.
Kent State really did not look that impressive in their 41-21 win over Towson State on Thursday. The Golden Flashes benefited from 6 Towson turnovers and had a KO return for a touchdown but in the end were outgained 316-267 by Towson. That’s not a good sign for a defense that was expected to be among the best in the MAC. Kentucky’s Max Smith must be licking his chops however as Towson’s Grant Enders went 26-36 for 246 yards. This should be an interesting game to see how Kentucky responds to an inferior opponent after being beat down at the Ville. Let’s meet the Golden Flashes.
