Yeah, you read the title right, compliance is indeed King. And Ben Howland is getting a taste of what it’s like to NOT have the University of Kentucky’s Chief Compliance Officer, Sandy Bell, on staff. Considering all the top tier talent that have flocked to the University of Kentucky since John Calipari took over the program, Sandy Bell is arguably the most important cog in the wheel that keeps the Wildcats on the straight and narrow.

Yes this is the same Sandy Bell who headed the internal investigation of the Kentucky Wildcats football program under Hal Mumme and reported numerous violations. You see, she has the unenviable job of walking a very tight rope. Not only is she responsible for making sure all recruits are eligible under NCAA rules, she also has to investigate programs internally to ensure they are not breaking any NCAA rules. So to say her position is riddled with potential land mines is a great understatement. She has to work with, and sometimes against, coaches and their practices.
