What time is it? GAMETIME baby! It is officially football time in the Bluegrass, Kentucky and Louisville for all the marbles as far as the Commonwealth is concerned. (Sorry WKU) Sit down in front of the TV and grab your favorite beverage. Shut your laptop. Find something red, spit on it. And please take all of that “house-divided” junk down. You shouldn’t be co-habitating with someone like that.
Less than a hundred miles separate the schools but they couldn’t be farther apart. And the fan-bases are no different. Louisville fans envision Kentucky fans wearing suspenders and sipping moonshine from Mason jars through our front tooth. And some of us are. Frankly I don’t see a problem besides the dental issues. As UK fans , we think of Cards followers as exactly the part Matt Jones portrayed. Sipping Mad Dog 20-20 across their gold teeth, through the line beard , with their pants on the ground.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle. But the biggest difference in the fans is their perception of this game. Louisville fans think they are going to run away with it on their way to the national title. And they simply will not shut up about it. (This, of course, completely ignores the fact that an undefeated Big East team has no hope of reaching the championship game. Even if they are the only undefeated team in the land.) Kentucky fans want to win this year, mostly to shut up Louisville fans up. More than getting a key win or moving toward bowl eligibility, we just want y’all to be quiet. And the only way to do that is walk away with the Governor’s Cup. Today is the true Louisville Hate Day.
So let’s do this thing. It’s time to put up or shut up Cards fans. All of your great “progress” is erased if you can’t beat Kentucky. The great Charlie Strong’s start will not shine so bright with 2 losses to Joker Phillips on his resume. And for at least a week it will be your turn to hear it, because this is the Commonwealth of KENTUCKY and you are just a small part of this state.
Hey at least if you lose, Charlie probably won’t get a BCS job offer and will stick around…
