As the 2012 college football season approaches, several UK freshmen are already making a name for themselves in fall camp and have been taken notice by Saturdays Down South:
Dyshawn Mobley and Justin Taylor, RBs (FR): Kentucky needs a power running game from any running back, and Dyshawn Mobley and Justin Taylor are showing signs that they are both a load to bring down. Joker Phillips said that both can “move the pile” and caused an “explosion” while blocking. The entire coaching staff is excited about these two running backs.
Freddie Maggard and Andy Murray are two former Wildcat letterman who remain Kentucky fans and regularly attend games, and they like the way UK is reaching out to former players, but would like to see even more of it.
I think it is great for the program to reach out to its history and let the current team know and understand that there are still a lot of guys out there that would love to have one more shot in Commonwealth. I also think Joker has done a much better job of reaching out to us than past coaches.
Freshman CB Jonathan Reed did all the right things during the summer to prepare for the upcoming season.
Junior Kevin Mitchell is the new starter at right tackle for UK, but o-line coach Mike Summers thinks he should be getting more pub for his ascension to a starting role:
He’s one of the real stories of the football team, I think. He’s a guy that’s kind of taken the long road to get to a starting position. He’s grinded and worked and moved up and moved down on the depth chart and fought his way through the offseason to make himself stronger and improve his movement skills, and I’ve been very encouraged by the performance that he’s had to this point.
