Anthony Davis is getting his “on the job” training on the largest stage — the US Olympics — this summer but his other five team mates from the National Champion Wildcats got their feet wet in the NBA Summer Camps. A total of eleven former Cats toiled in the Orlando and Las Vegas summer leagues which ended yesterday.
Terrence Jones and Michael Kidd Gilchrist dominated summer play but here is a look at how all the Summer Cats did.
Terrence Jones (HOU)
5 GP, 25.2 MPG
18.2 PTS, .50 FG%, 8.6 RPG, 1.4 APG, .2 SPG
Jones justified his selection and in most cases outplayed fellow Rocket and first round pick Royce White. With the signing of Jeremy Lin, it does not look like the Rockets are in the Dwight Howard chase anymore, but there is still a possibility the Rockets trade Jones due to an influx of bigs on the squad.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA)
1 GP, 22 MPG
18 PTS, .583 FG%, 8 RPG, 5 APG, 4 SPG
MKG played just one game, but did what we knew he would do: fill up the stat sheet.
Brandon Knight (DET)
4 GP, 29 MPG
14.5 PTS, .347 FG%, 3 RPG, 7.3 APG, 1.3 SPG
Knight dazzled in his play in Orlando and had a 14 assist game. From all indications, Brandon Knight is posed to take the next step to stardom next year.
Doron Lamb (MIL)
4 GP, 29 MPG
14 PTS, .455 FG%, 2.8 RPG, 0.8 APG
Lamb did not lose any momentum from his national championship appearance and is looking like the real deal so far. Expect big things from Lamb.
Eric Bledsoe (LAC)
3 GP, 33.3 MPG
12.3 PTS, .441 FG%, 3.7 RPG, 5.7 APG, 3 SPG
With his playoffs performance coupled with his summer league play, Bledsoe is poised for a breakout season for the Clippers next year. Yes, they have Chris Paul, but look for Bledsoe to get plenty of time at the two guard.
Marquis Teague (CHI)
5 GP, 27.4 MPG
10.6 PTS, .294 FG%, 1.4 RPG, 3 APG, 0.6 SPG
Teague did not have a great shooting camp, but he showed a lot of potential and displayed a lot of intangibles. He has a long way to go to replace Derrick Rose, but should get plenty of playing time as Rose is injured. We will see if Teague gets the call or if the Bulls have another PG during Rose’s absence.
