While Anthony Davis has been making news with his call up to the Men’s National Team for USA Basketball, Kentucky Wildcats outfielder Austin Cousino has been playing this summer for USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team.
This is not the first g0-around for Austin Cousino representing Team USA. He previously played for the 16U national team in 2009. He was named the MVP of the 2009 16U IBAF World Championship.
The Collegiate National Team has played 15 games this summer and the Wildcat outfielder has played in 10 of those. Cousino is hitting .333 in 10 games. In 21 at-bats for Team USA, Cousino has 7 hits, 3 of them seeing extra bases.
Cousino has 5 RBIs and has added 6 runs, which ties him for 4th on the team. Two of those RBIs have come with 2 outs.
Cousino has added 3 successful stolen base attempts as well.
The national team is managed by Dave Serrano, the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers baseball team.
As far as outfielders on the team go, Cousino is one of 4. The others being products out of Oregon State, Arizona, and Cal-State Fullerton. Since there are 4 outfielders, it’s no surprise that Cousino is one of 5 players to lead the team with 10 games played.
The Dublin Coffman product finished his freshman season at Kentucky last month and was recently named as a first-team freshman All-America by Baseball America.
