Apr 2, 2012; New Orleans, LA, USA; Kentucky Wildcats forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (14) attempts to block a shot by Kansas Jayhawks forward Thomas Robinson (0) during the second half in the finals of the 2012 NCAA men

Its now all but guaranteed that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will not be selected with the 2nd-overall pick. If the Bobcats keep it, they’re believed to be favoring Kansas forward Thomas Robinson. If they trade the pick, Florida guard Bradley Beal now appears firmly entrenched as the next best prospect.

The LA Lakers are shopping forward Pau Gasol, and they are coveting Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. If MKG falls beyond 4th overall pick, the Lakers would be in prime position to trade up and snag Gilchrist, and give the Lakers the two hardest working, most competitive players in the NBA in Kobe Bryant and MKG. Although I’m a Celtics fan, that would be quite a sight to see.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have narrowed their list to three players: Bradley Beal, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes. If the Cavs keep their #4 spot and don’t trade up, MKG and Harrison Barnes will likely be who they decide between, as Beal is now a lock to be gone by the #3 pick.

ESPN Draft expert Chad Ford’s latest mock draft has Gilchrist going to the Cavs at #4, Terrence Jones to the Dallas Mavericks at #17, Marquis Teague to the Orlando Magic at #19, Doron Lamb to the Atlanta Hawks at #43, and Darius Miller to the 76ers at #45.
