Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: 2014 prospect D’Angelo Russell to take visit

As reported earlier today by Adam Zagoria, 2014 SG D’Angelo Russell will visit Kentucky next week. The 6-foot-4 guard from Montverde Academy (FL) is a Louisville native, and he is also taking a visit to nearby Cincinnati on Thursday. “I really never watched Cincinnati so I can’t really tell you about them,” Russell said. Kentucky assistant coach Kenny Payne set up a date with his father to come visit.

“It’s an honor to have any school show interest,” he said. “I know Coach Cal and their reputation.” He is also looking at other nearby colleges such as Indiana, Ohio State, and Louisville. Russell plays under Kevin Boyle at Montverde, the former coach of St. Patrick’s in New Jersey where he coached Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Kyrie Irving. I had the chance to catch Montverde Academy in action in December at the City of Palms Classic in Florida, but did not see Russell take the court. Montverde has a roster with tremendous talent, from the seniors down to the freshmen. Russell will most likely see more action this upcoming season as a junior. “I think what a lot of people like with him is he’s versatile where he’s a two that can play the one, or he’s a one that can play the two,” Boyle said. “Not a lot of guys can naturally play the one or the two at 6-4, 6-4.”
