#30 Walter McCarty (1993-1996)
DATE OF BIRTH: 2/1/1974
Evansville, IN

Growing up in Evansville, Indiana, the 6’10″ Walter McCarty was always close to the state of Kentucky. He enrolled for the 1993-1994 season and was an integral part of the resurgence of the Kentucky basketball squad into the national spotlight.

McCarty who’s height would traditionally slot him into a Power Forward role, lacked bulk and strength of an interior player, but his ball handling and exceptional outside shot – including a 1994 three pointer against LSU that capped Kentucky’s 31 point comeback, the largest of any team in history – saw him with a majority of his minutes at an nontraditional small forward.

McCarty’s time at UK spanned across the 1996 NCAA National Championship team, a season in which McCarty averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds a game and played with other Kentucky greats Antoine Walker, Tony Delk, and Derek Anderson to name a few.
