Whew!! Joker Phillips & Co. finally reeled in their second commitment of the 2013 recruiting class yesterday when Miramar (FL) Everglades DE Alvonte Bell committed to the Cats. Bell is currently ranked a 4* prospect by Scout.com and held scholarship offers from a numerous BCS schools. It is a huge swing in momentum for UK and could be the catalyst for more players to commit to the Cats. It shows that Phillips is still able to recruit despite the temperature of his seat and that the staff knows how to recruit even without Tee Martin. It may in fact prove that Kentucky is simply being selective due to lack of scholarships and they don’t won’t to fill up their class too soon because the team is recruiting more highly rated prospects than ever before.
Kentucky continues to build quality depth along the defensive line that has never been seen in these parts. With Bell and Kentucky DT Jacob Hyde, in addition to likely re-signing David Washington from JUCO, the Cats can be as good as they want to be on defense in the coming years.
