This weekend is the first official camp of the year hosted by the Kentucky football staff. The staff is hoping to closely evaluate some prospects that they have only seen on tape thus far. With the Cats only having one verbal commitment for 2013, don’t be surprised to see that total rise by Tuesday.
The Cats continue to try to invade Ohio for recruits. This week it was reported that a whopping five players from Wayne HS in Huber Heights, Ohio would be camping in Lexington this weekend. Lovell Peterson (OL), ColeNewsome (OL) Jesse Bray (WR), Javon Harrison (QB), Jarod Hardrick (DB) and Cole Newsome (OL) are all expected to attend. Their HS coach also noted Kentucky’s increased presence in the buckeye state, “They’re making a big effort to come up to this area. They know it’s a hotbed for athletes.”
I want to take this time to congratulate former Wildcat wideout Tommy Cook. After serving time as a graduate assistant he was promoted this week to Assistant Director of Football Operations. I remember watching Cook catch passes from Jared Lorenzen and it is nice to promote a former Cat to the position.
Also congratulations to UK center Matt Smith for being named to the preseason watch list for the Rimington Award, which goes to the best center in college football. It’s a fairly lengthy watch list , but it seems like Kentucky has consistently been able to place players on the list.
