Taiedo Smith seals the victory over Tennessee with an INT
Good evening Constant Reader. I hope you are well. I know it’s been hard for you to deal with the lack of UK sports news that typically comes this time of year. A little recruiting here, some NBA draft there, toss in some NFL rookie camps and baseball. Well I don’t have any shocking news or scoops for you but we do have some Wildcat-related news to talk about.
Congratulations to the Kentucky baseball team for sweeping Alabama with an 8-1 win today. That moves them into top spot in SEC and if they sweep Mississippi State, they will finish with a school-record 21 SEC victories this season. Part-time UK wide receiver Brian Adams tried to knock the leather off the ball on a 2-run homer.
BBK has a nice interview with Grady HS (Atlanta) ATH Darren Dowdell. A DL/TE prospect from talent-rich Georgia, Dowdell holds several BCS offers but says that Kentucky is in the lead right now. Dowdell is a former teammate of UK DB Marcus Caffey and says the two are close. Perhaps this will keep the Cats in front until Dowdell commits. That could take a while, as he doesn’t have any plans to commit before the season. According to the article, the coaches view Dowdell as a TE.
Well, national talking heads are already predicting Joker Phillips’ demise. Big surprise. Bruce Feldman of CBS sports discussed the possibility of Phillips being replaced next offseason with a familiar name. Bobby Petrino. I am willing to accept that Joker may be gone next year, but hiring Petrino is more unlikely than Mike Leach was. Not to say that he wouldn’t take the job, Bobby has shown he will take the money and run, but the character issues will turn UK off. And the whole former Louisville head coach who ran up the score versus Kentucky famously thing. There will be other names out there in December if the Cats haven’t gone bowling.
