2012 PF Montrezl Harrell, who had originally signed a letter of intent to play for Virginia Tech next season, has requested to be released from his letter of intent after the school fired head coach Seth Greenburg. Harrell is now one of the top remaining uncommited players left in the 2012 recruiting class, and gives UK head coach John Calipari another player he can target to finish up the 2012 class after saying he hopes to add one more player to the class. Harrell had been contemplating asking for his release for the past month, but today he made it official and will now likely be given his release so that he can sign with whatever school he wants to.

Harrell is a long, athletic big man with a 7’3″ wingspan, something that John Calipari values highly when recruiting players. He’s also got good ball-handling skills and can dribble the ball up the court, another trait Caliapri loves in his big men. At the very least, he would be a 10 minute-per-game player who could come in and be a presence on defense and not be a liability. He’ll need some work refining his offensive game, but that will come in time with John Calipari and Orlando Antigua’s coaching.
