KENTUCKY - Since we last looked at this, the Wildcats finished 9-1 down the stretch with the only loss to Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament Championship. That loss seemed to lift the pressure off the Wildcats and they breezed through the NCAA field to capture their 8th National Title. Kentucky is a prognosis top 5 preseason team next year and could begin the season as a unanimious number one if a couple of recruiting pieces fall into place.
KANSAS – The Jayhawks were dropped in the second round of the Big 12 Tourney by Baylor, but once in the NCAA Tournament, took on the feel of a team of destiny. Kansas beat Purdue, North Carolina State, and Ohio State by a total of 8 points to reach the title game where they fell to Kentucky. Along the way, the Jayhawks knocked off #3 all time North Carolina 80-67 to reach the Final Four. Kansas is not going anywhere next year and are a preseason Top 5 team with talented newcomers Perry Ellis and Ben McLemore stepping in.
NORTH CAROLINA - It’s hard to lose because of injuries, and in all respects, that is what ended the Tar Heel’s season. Kendall Marshall’s injury was in retrospect too much to over come and UNC limped to a 6-2 end to their season. That said, they very nearly reached the Final Four and fell in the Elite Eight to Kansas. North Carolina lost a ton of talent but still has plenty of talent hanging around to make them a preseason 11th ranked team.
