Now that college football and the NFL are completely out of the picture, I will focus all of my attention to college basketball and the NBA. I will try not to ruin your love for hoops too much.

Thursday 2/9

Lakers at Celtics (NBA Basketball): 8:00 PM on TNT

The greatest rivalry in the NBA and one of the best in all of sports is LA vs. Boston. The Celtics are surging with five straight wins and are now in second place in the Atlantic division behind Philadelphia. It seems as if the old timers and Rondo are finally healthy. The Lakers are riding a two game losing streak behind mediocre play from everybody but Kobe Bryant. So what’s new? I expect the C’s to continue their streak as will the Lakers.

Illinois at #23 Indiana (College Basketball): 8:00 PM on the Big 10 Network

Illinois has lost three out of five games while Indiana is coming off a rare road victory against Purdue. Illinois is in danger of missing the tournament while the Hoosiers are fighting for a higher seed. I do have to admit that Indiana is tough in Bloomington, so I think this game goes to them. Unfortunately.

#13 St. Mary’s at Gonzaga (College Basketball): 11:oo PM on ESPN 2

If you want to stay awake to watch two mid-majors duke it out, this should be a good one. The Gales are undefeated in the WCC while the Zags have an 8-2 record in the same conference. If St. Mary’s get past the Zags, then they should remain undefeated until the February 18th match up at #7 Murray State. It’s going to be tough winning on the road against Gonzaga, a tested team that knows how to play under pressure.
