With a win by Florida, the Cats lead in the SEC remains at one game. UK will look to hold serve tonight as they battle the gamecocks of South Carolina in Columbia, before retuning home for a Tuesday night showdown with the Gators for at least a tie for the SEC lead.
UK Women Face LSU Sunday
The UK women’s basketball team will travel to Baton Rouge tomorrow for an afternoon showdown with the LSU Tigers. The Lady Cats are just one win away from tying the school record for the most Southeastern Conference wins in a single season, and the longest consecutive winning streak in school history, which would be 11. Tip-off in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center is set for 3 p.m.
Dermontti Dawson may Hall of Fame call Today
Though it is a basketball Saturday, hopefully the biggest UK news of the day will hopefully be football related. Former UK alumni and Steelers All-Pro center Dermontti Dawson was announced as an NFL Hall-of-Fame finalist last year, and today will learn if he has indeed been elected to Pro Football’s greatest honor. Dawson is regarded as one of the greatest centers in NFL history, and was named to seven straight Pro Bowls, was a six-time First-Team All-Pro, was named co-AFC Offensive Lineman of the Year in 1993 by the NFLPA, and in 1996 he was named the NFL Alumni’s Offensive Lineman of the Year. At one point, he played in 170 consecutive games, which is the second most in Steelers history. Despite all of these accomplishments, Dawson says that he doesn’t worry too much about whether he’ll be elected, and that he’s already happy with what he’s achieved.
A lot of people ask me about the process, but I don’t spend energy on something I can’t control. If it happens, it happens. Apparently, I’ve met the qualifications to potentially to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. It’s great to be mentioned for the Hall of Fame. Believe me, I don’t take it lightly.
Good luck to Dermontti.
