UK Moves Up in Both Polls

UK moved up from #3 to #2 in both polls today after Ohio State lost to Indiana on Saturday.  Syracuse is still the #1 ranked team in the country thanks to their difficult schedule (HAHA) and undefeated start.

Weekly Awards

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was named the SEC Player of the Week after averaging 21 points and 12.5 rebounds over two games.  Anthony Davis was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 14 points, 11.5 rebounds and 6 blocks per game.  When are they going to rename these awards to “Kentucky’s Players of the Week?”

Fill up Freedom Hall

Calipari said today that the annual game in Louisville at Freedom Hall is one he wants to keep, but only if people show up to the game.  He said fans better fill up the arena because if it was at Rupp there would be 24,000 people there.  UK announced today that only upper level tickets are remaining.  So that is good, but attendance has been down for this game and it is time we show up.

Pep Rally in Louisville

The Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club is having a pre-game pep rally at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center from 5-7 tomorrow.  Admission is free for Alumni club members and $5 for everyone else.  Nothing like a little party to get you excited for the 7 o’clock tip.

Eye on a Record

Anthony Davis has 64 blocks on the season in 14 games.  The UK single season record is 83 held by Andre Riddick and Mel Turpin.  Riddick did it in 34 games and Turpin in 31 games.  Davis could do it in 17, which is unreal.  He also leads the country in blocks per game at 4.6, the record for UK is Sam Bowie at 2.86 per game, that record will likely fall as well.

That’s it for today.  Get ready for the beat down UK will put on Arkansas Little-Rock tomorrow.
