WBN College Football Weekend Wrap Up

As long as I live I will never get sick of talking about the day that Kentucky finally beat Tennessee in football. I will never tire of recalling Matt Roark’s performance of a lifetime against all odds. I never, ever forget that wonderful Saturday in which my team finally ended 26 long years of frustration and embarrassment.

The question now is, Where does Kentucky football go from here? After a 5-7 season, there isn’t a lot of excitement about the program in Lexington if Kentucky does not pull off a victory against Tennessee. In fact, if that would not have happened, I don’t want to even think about how some fans would be reacting right now if the Cats were 4-8.

The best case scenario is that the coaching staff at UK takes the momentum from this victory and carries it out onto the recruiting trail and uses it to motivate the team during winter workouts. The players need to have a specific mentality in mind to prepare for next year, and they have a long time to prepare since there is no bowl game to go to.

Joker Phillips is still not a popular coach and will start the next season off with a target on his back and his job in question. Season three in the Phillips regime is vital if Joker wants to stick around for years to come. For him to feel comfortable about his job he will have to win seven games, this would give the fans and the administration confidence.

But for now I am sad that football season is over for Wildcat fans. At least we still have plenty of basketball to look forward to.

The unthinkable

Louisville defeated South Florida for the first time ever in Tampa. All that needs to happen for Louisville to go to the Orange Bowl is the Bearcats of Cincinnati to lose to the UConn Huskies. We are all Bearcats on Saturday.

National Championship Rematch

It looks as if the BCS title game will be a rematch between LSU and Alabama no matter if LSU wins or loses to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

I am looking forward to this match up. Even though LSU won when the teams first met earlier this year at Alabama, I don’t think either team really established itself as far superior over the other. There is still unfinished business left on the field.

There are plenty of people on the opposite end of that argument that do not want to see the rematch. To those people, I simply say: Shut Up. If there is a team better than LSU or Alabama, then show. And don’t say Stanford and don’t say Oklahoma State, because those teams clearly are not superior. The system we have may be lacking, but this is the match up it has given us and it is the right one, regardless if you want to watch it or not.

Top 10 BCS Poll

OK State jumps back into the fray, but the only way they sneak into the championship game is if they blow out Oklahoma and if Georgia embarrasses LSU. I don’t think either will happen.

1. LSU

2. Alabama

3. Oklahoma State

4. Stanford

5. Virginia Tech

6. Houston

7. Boise State

8. Arknasas

9. Oregon

10. Oklahoma

Conference Count: SEC 3, Big 12 2, Pac 12 2, ACC 1, CUSA 1, and Boise State.

NFL Note: Tim Tebow is 5-1 as a starter. He learned everything he knows from Matt Roark.

Picks

I went 4-2 on the week as I wrongly picked my Irish to upset the Cardinal and I stupidly picked against the Packers. I really think Green Bay will go undefeated. Nobody can stop that offense.

I end the season 47-19. I am thinking about doing a bowl game special edition of this post but I have to clear it with headquarters first. Stay tuned.

The Week to Come

Plenty of conference championships to come this weekend. But since Kentucky football is over and done with, most of the Commonwealth will be focused on a little game between your #1 Kentucky Wildcats and North Carolina.

Go Cats.
