From all indications, Kentucky Wildcat forward Terrence Jones mad the right decision to come back to UK for his sophomore season. John Calipari has said that Jone has changed his attitude and his work ethic and that Kentucky fans can expect a totally different player:
“If there is a better player in the country, then I’ve got to see him. Maybe that guy is in our gym, I don’t know. If there is somebody better than Terrence, then I have got to see him. He is first in all the running things, first out on the court, comes back in the evening and shoots. I had four (NBA) scouts in here yesterday that said his whole focus on basketball and what he is compared to last year is not even close. Now you are seeing a young man who has changed his habits, changed his body, added skill level, and now a different attitude towards basketball. Who does that sound like? Josh Harrellson. So now what you see is a different player.”
During the same interview session, John Calipari also touched on the Darius Miller/Michael Kidd-Gilchrist situation. Everyone expects Miller to start the season at the SF slot, but you don’t keep a talent like Kidd-Gilchrist on the bench for long. Calipari had this to say about the “competition”:
“You should see the wars between Darius (Miller) and Michael (Kidd) Gilchrist. I mean absolutely vicious. After it’s done, they hit each other on the butt. They like each other and they like what they are doing for each other. Darius has never been better.”
“I know this: I’m not coaching any effort. I’m not coaching intensity, enthusiasm. Occasionally I have to stop them for tough shots — occasionally. I haven’t said boo to Darius. I haven’t said boo to Terrence. The young kids I’ll get on occasionally, but they’re giving everything they have. What more can you ask?”
And in case you missed it, the Louisville Cardinals have a new “anthem”. I really don’t know how much it will catch on as it involves lots of spelling. Seriously, this has to be the stupidest thing I have seen in quite a while and this is from a guy kooking forward to the rebirth of “Beavis and Butthead” tomorrow night. …… and I am still looking to find a bird with teeth.
