Five for Thursday: John Calipari's a Boss

by 4 PM Headlines

John Calipari held his annual basketball tip off luncheon yesterday. Highlights include:

-The Kentucky Effect is “about thinking like a King”.
-”This is the Commonwealth’s team. Everyone wants to get mad about that, but it is!” Take that Pitino. 97% of the state could care less about you and the Cards. And Cal still has not said your name.
-Cal said the light went on with Terrence Jones and that he wants to be special. He also said that Jones has finished first in all of the team sprints at practice. This dude’s about to be a beast.
Sounds like a fantastic time. Wish I could have attended. (frowny face)
-Shabazz Muhammad has been sending out tweets about his excitement for attending Big Blue Madness this weekend. Shabazz is just one of a slew of high profile recruits that will attend the event but he is definitely the most important. All of this is a very good sign. I am going to make a bold prediction and say he ends up a Wildcat. There, I said it.
-Bullit East power forward Derrick Willis was offered a scholarship by John Calipari. Willis will be attending UofL’s Big Red Douche Event Friday instead of BBM. Hmmmm….hang out with NBA players, the top recruits in the country and watch Anthony Davis ball or hang out with Rick Pitino, Richard Pitino, Jr, and watch Kyle Kuric and Peyton Siva stink up the joint? This kid is already making bad decisions.
-Something that kind of flew under the radar were some of Joker Phillips’ comments about the struggling offense. He made a statement about how he was hired to make a struggling offense better, which he did. Many are thinking that this is a veiled comment about Randy Sanders job and the possibility of Joker taking over play calling. It would not surprise me if it happened.
- And finally, I am going to Chicago this weekend. I doubt they have Fox Sports South up there, never the less, I will try and find Big Blue Madness somewhere, probably online more than likely. I have it set on my DVR at home just in case. I haven’t missed this even in years. I’m hoping this won’t be the first in a long time.
-BONUS: I just learned that Auburn was cleared of all wrong doing in the Cam Newton scandal in which his father shopped him around to schools, including Auburn, for $180,000. So I guess trying to get your son in a “pay to play” operation is cool with the NCAA. I have said it before and I will say it again, the NCAA is about as useful as Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan on Jeopardy.
