Today was a weird day, am I right? One one hand, you have Lexington as the epicenter of anger over the football teams play this past weekend. On the other hand, you have Lexington as an exciting place with UK Legends vs. Villains game tickets going on sale today and of course the start of Big Blue Madness week.
I thought the most interesting decision of the day was the game time for the UK vs. Jacksonville State football game Saturday. The game time has been scheduled for 12:00 pm. That comes with BBM the night before and ESPN will have whip-around coverage all night for the signal basketball season is beginning. Then also factor in that Keeneland will be open. I know that the game will be on ESPNU and the network probably dictates the time, but how many people do they really expect to show up? Can’t be many.
If Joker is really on the hot seat with the administration (which I still don’t agree with or believe), then they really aren’t helping him with the game time for this game. There will not be 45,000 people there for the game, and they might announce higher, but it will be lower. It wouldn’t surprise me if there is less than 30,000 people there. Having a less than half full stadium will be the factor that will put Joker on the hot seat in year 2 in my opinion, and this game is as uninteresting as any game I can ever remember. UK’s offense is almost the worst in the country (thanks Kent State), and JSU is FCS, that is not a good combination to compete with Keeneland and to some extent UK basketball.
I hope I am wrong and there are 70,000 fans who show up and UK wins 70-0. But, if the prediction proves correct and there are less than 30,000 fans at the game, this week could spell the beginning of the end for Joker, win or lose.
