After the UK staff had their in home visit with Kyrie Irving, Irving seemed quite pleased about the visit and even relayed the KSR’s Dustin Rumbaugh that UK had pulled even in his recruitment with Indiana and Duke. A few days later, Irving gave credence to his statement and arranged an official visit to UK for October 15th and one assumes he would also take in UK’s Midnight Madness, which is held the next day. All of this is great news for UK, but in all reality, does UK have a real shot at Kyrie?
One would assume that Brandon Knight and Kyrie Irving are engaged in the same type of standoff to see who commits first that Doron Lamb and Stacey Poole are in. Seeing that Brandon Knight will be in Lexington for a visit this weekend, the ball is firmly in Knight’s court right now.
And of course there is Duke. Duke has been long rumored to be the leader for Duke for quite a while and some Dookie pundits are being so bold as to tell Duke fans to pencil in Sunday, September 27, as the date Duke will get their next recruit. That is of course, the weekend Irving makes a visit to Duke’s campus.
Indiana’s Tom Crean can not be counted out in this battle either. Crean has made it apparent that Irving is the key to his 2010 class and Kyrie has a visit to IU planned for October 2. It’s safe to assume that Crean will not slip from his hands without a fight.
While Indiana and Duke have been rumored to be at the head of the class for a couple of months so far, Crean’s father has said it is “premature“ to assume that either Duke or IU will get the nod. From his comments, it still seems like a very open race:
So the wait comes on…. but my gut feeling is that Brandon Knight has a chance to take the gun out of Kyrie’s hands this weekend…
